Leads the effective integration of pharmacy services, policies, and procedures within reporting departments and across all Trinity/Muscatine campuses with the goal of increasing synergy, improving efficiency and standardization, and increasing strategic value to achieve quality and financial outcomes that meets the organizational expectations. 

·         Will develop a solid pharmacy operations and clinical pharmacy management team that will link into the local and system strategic initiatives and manage day to day operations on each campus. 

·         Consistent visibility on each campus and committed to serving as the Regional Director to all pharmacy employees. 

·         Identify and effectively link UPH System Pharmacy practices, changes, etc. that apply to the QC/Muscatine region and drive best practices from the local region up through the system Pharmacy CSG group to improve overall UPH Pharmacy services. 

·         The incumbent prepares pharmacy service line operational and capital equipment budgets and monitors the pharmacy service line performance to determine when alterations/revisions in staffing, services, and equipment are needed.

·         The incumbent coordinates pharmacy service line purchasing and negotiating contractual services directly or supervision over the performance of such services.

·         To maintain personal growth, the incumbent keeps active in local and national pharmacy organizations and attends meetings and conferences inside and outside of UnityPoint Health that pertain to the pharmacy service line and management development. 

·         Ensures the entire pharmacy service line maintains compliance to regulations as set forth by, but not limited to, the FDA, USP, , DEA, IDPH, state/federal pharmacy laws, Joint Commission, and CMS,

·         Performs risk identification, loss prevention and claims management activities; integrates hospital and system-wide risk management.  Advises senior team regarding risk management activities and major occurrences.

·         The incumbent is expected to actively participate on local and system committees that encompass quality service, safe patient care, fiscal responsibility of the organization, and others as required and assigned. 

·         A full range of administrative responsibilities under the incumbent’s direction will include both short and long range business planning to achieve pharmacy service line objectives that are in line with local and system strategic initiatives. 

Uses innovation and expert knowledge of industry trends and market opportunities to strategically plan for Pharmacy Services throughout the system.

·         Annually updates the Pharmacy Business Plan and strategic initiatives assuring the plan is aligned with the Organization locally and with the Pharmacy CSG Roadmap. 

·         Regularly assesses market and technological opportunities for application on the QC/Muscatine campuses.  Identifies those opportunities that would contribute to the local and system strategic initiatives; develops and implements plans for maximizing identified opportunities for pharmacy services scope expansion if cost effective in either creating overall expense reduction for the organization or new revenue streams.

·         Develops and regularly reviews succession plans for expected and unexpected vacancies in key Pharmacy positions across the region. 

·         Identifies the appropriate Pharmacy resources and expertise to help implement new technology or new process/procedures ensuring optimal regulatory compliance and safe/cost effective pharmaceutical care for patients.

·         Maintain smooth and efficient operation of the Pharmacy Service Line by responding to the expectations of patients, providers, leadership peers of other service lines, employees, and direct reports through effective supervision, delegation and communication.

Plans, develops, and implements revisions in service and/or new services based on community, patient, and provider needs in a cost-effective manner. 

·         Ongoing evaluation of pharmacy services.

·         The rapid changes in technology require the incumbent to evaluate new equipment, the cost justification of new technology and the marketing of the new services to providers and senior leadership at the local and system level.

·         The Regional Director is a member of the management team and represents technological and clinical advances to the team which will impact capital and staffing decisions for the organization.

·         This position must remain knowledgeable of new instrumentation, software programs and/or new pharmaceuticals which may provide improved services to referring providers and improved quality of care to patients.

·         Recommendations on enhanced and/or new services especially requiring additional personnel and capital equipment acquisition are documented and forwarded to the Regional Director for consideration.

·         The Regional Director performs coordination of services to medical staff needs.

·         Assumes an active role in provider relations; coordinating the availability of services to patients of all age groups, disease states, and acuity levels that the organization has targeted. 

·         Responds to provider concerns and ensures that all services are provided in a timely manner and meets the customer’s needs – providers, nursing, patients, and ancillary services. 

Minimum Requirements

Education:

·         Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited college of Pharmacy

·         MBA and Board Certification

Experience:

·         Five years’ experience as Director or Manager of Pharmacy in a hospital setting demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of hospital pharmacy practices.

·         Regional oversight of multiple campuses

License(s)/Certification(s):

·         Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

·         Completion of 340B University or equivalent online education through Apexus within first year of attaining the position. 

·         Registered Pharmacist in IL and IA (or obtained within first 90 days).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·         Exceptional database and spreadsheet knowledge, proficient in math, pharmacy calculations and use of excel formulas. 

·         Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Visio), electronic medical records, pharmacy systems, and internet navigation. 

·         Must interact well with people and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Current knowledge of state, federal, and professional industry standards pertaining to pharmaceutical healthcare and the 340B program requirements.

·         Experience with analyzing and reporting data in order to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions.
