The Staff Pharmacist is an entry-level position, primarily responsible for production and distribution services for non-sterile compounding and medications. Performs other professional pharmacy duties including the procurement, inspection, preparation, packaging, labeling, distribution and control of all drugs.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.
Screens and interprets all orders for appropriateness, proper dosing (neonatal and pediatric specific e.g. mg/kg, mg/m2, etc.), adverse drug reactions, and incompatibilities.
Clarifies orders with physician, other pharmacists or nurse when necessary.
Dispenses medication and fills all orders accurately, completely and in conformance with legal regulations.
Compounds and or checks non-sterile preparations, topical and systemic products and dosage forms as requested for use in patient and other departmental and hospital areas.
Applies knowledge of solubility behavior of substances, stability of drugs, usages of drugs, and limitations on modes of administering drugs, and similarly applies knowledge of incompatibilities in evaluating dosages and permissible concentrations of drugs, and in anticipating, preventing, and treating undesirable chemical reactions.
Has legal responsibility for proper interpretation of prescriptions and the dispensing of prescribed products, and call to physician's attention any synergistic, antagonistic, and cumulative effects, as well as questionable overdoses or incompatibilities.
Specifies proper storage, protection, of therapeutic agents, in accordance with the standards of the United States Pharmacopoeia (U.S.P.) and the manufacturer package insert.
Provides patient/caregiver medication counseling
Controls and keeps appropriate records for drugs stored in and distributed by the Pharmacy.
Maintains inventory control and resolves inventory problems in the absence of the pharmacy buyer and pharmacy management.
Provides clinical supervision of pharmacy technicians.
Packages medication per storage requirement and arrange for deliveries.
Ensures that quality control checks are performed for all compounded non-sterile products in accordance with departmental policy and state regulation.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.Must meet minimum requirements at time of hire.
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
Experience: None required.
Licensure/ Certification: PRM-CA - Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of prescription and non-prescription drugs and drug products and their indication, efficacy, dosage, mechanisms of action; fate and disposition (if known), major contraindications and potential side effects.
Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature; medical therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and disease states.
Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies;
Knowledge of influence of patient's age, sex, concomitant disease states, concurrent drug therapy, foods and diagnostic procedures on drug activity and disposition.
Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pathology, chemistry and mathematics as they relate to pharmacy practice;
Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirement related to the functional area.
Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus with other departments and external vendors.
Ability to communicate effectively with others and exercise a high degree of tact in coordinating with and advising other members of hospital staff, patients, and various other professional contacts.
Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy
