Manages, coordinates and supports projects relative to clinical informatics, automation and other technology based applications which includes the integration of clinical informatics and related technologies to enhance the delivery of safe, efficient pharmaceutical care and services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Coordinates the department's technology/automation services and enhancements to include: facilitating hardware and software design, needs, build, testing, maintenance and implementation of automation technologies; and, coordination of activities related to system-wide interfaces with automation.
Develops effective and measurable training / education programs to ensure the consistent, safe and efficient use of departmental IT systems.
Develops, implements and maintains effective and reliable downtime processes / procedures (including backup / data loss prevention.)
Evaluates the literature for new technologies and/or successful IT practices that have been demonstrated to enhance efficiency and safety in other organizations.
Liaisons with site specific multidisciplinary clinical informatics team to ensure integration of pharmacy systems with other hospital based systems.
Manages the department's clinical informatics systems. Ensures for the general maintenance, review and revisions to the pharmacy clinical systems. Manages and troubleshoots day to day hardware and software needs and issues. Works with the enterprise-wide team (PharmNet) to ensure the department is aligned with MedStar practices/processes and provides feedback for system improvements.
Manages the pharmacy intranet web content which includes the StarPort webpage, Pharmacy Sharepoint site, ePocrates maintenance, etc.
Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department on quality and service improvement teams.
Performs duties of the Patient Care Pharmacist to ensure prompt and accurate dispensing of all inpatient medications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Provides input and assists in the development of hospital goals, objectives, policies and procedures relative to clinical informatics.
Serves as the primary liaison with the MedStar IT staff to assure ongoing currency, reliability, and efficiency of the department's informatics system and to facilitate additional enhancements to these systems.
Licensed as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland; advanced degree preferred.
3 years as practicing pharmacist in an institutional setting. Training in integrated clinical IT systems preferred.
Pharmacist license in the State of Maryland.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
