The role you’ll contribute:
The Expedien Pharmacy Technician performs a wide range of supportive duties to assist the Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication so that patients receive consistent care. This role is required to ensure that the customer’s (internal and external) needs are met; building productive relationships with high-priority customers; taking accountability for customer satisfaction and loyalty; using appropriate interpersonal techniques to prevent and resolve escalated customer complaints and regain customer confidence. The technician is required to understand all pharmacy processes relating to prescription order entry, claims adjudication, fulfillment, and shipping prescriptions. In addition, this position assists the Pharmacist in quality check of typed prescriptions, maintains inventory and patient records, and answers incoming calls into the pharmacy call center. Works only under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist and does not perform duties that can only be legally performed by a licensed Pharmacist.

Monitors team queue to ensure that all processes are completed in a timely manner including order entry, adjudicating, and corrections to any orders to ensure a steady flow through production and timely turnaround for the patients.
Provides courteous and professional customer service to patients and their representatives while ensuring adherence to all privacy regulations. Provides accurate information while always presenting a calm and professional demeanor. Accurately processes orders and payments received over the phone.
Is aware of daily production goals and works to meet these goals without becoming distracted or being a distraction to other team members.
Understands entire pharmacy process and the roles of other team members to assure the customer’s needs are met.
Answers calls into the call center queue or hunt group in a courteous and timely manner, contributing to reduced abandonment rate and overall patient satisfaction.
Enters new prescription orders and processes all data for write-ups, IVR and other refills daily, assuring that all information is correct including proper patient, drug, medication directions, refills, and physician are selected at order entry.
Processes incoming mail / faxes / physician phone prescriptions/ SureScripts in an accurate and timely manner as assigned.
Selects correct medications when processing or filling a prescription (checks NDC code) ensuring the prescription is filled correctly and does not activate drugs into inventory without the assistance of the buyers.
Maintains an awareness of pop-ups and reads and follows through with all necessary actions to ensure an order is correct.
Leaves adequate and understandable notes in third party software for any issue that needs to be communicated to external partners regarding patient care and leaves adequate notes in the member’s profile for any issues that need to be communicated to other staff members.
Contacts prescribers’ offices for any clarification regarding missing prescription information as assigned or to notify prescribers of non-covered drugs or prior authorization requirements. Follows up in a timely manner based on pharmacy processes, contacting the patient as necessary.
Processes new and refill prescription orders for all patients accurately and efficiently. Tracks orders as necessary through production and shipping to ensure timely shipment and delivery to patient. Selects appropriate shipping method for each order according to pharmacy processes or patient’s request, making sure that the correct and most cost-effective method is always used and the pharmacy service standards are being met.
Acts as a first check for new prescription orders, verifying the correct patient, drug, directions, quantity, refills, physician, DEA number and all other prescription information is correct.
Works in a timely manner to ensure that the QA queue is flowing throughout the day and orders are being sent over to the Pharmacist to review. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively when failing any technician orders to ensure all mistakes are corrected promptly.
Provides accurate and timely information to our third-party customer contact vendor, including copays, refill dates, and other information as requested to facilitate patient notifications and ordering. Updates third party software accurately and in a timely manner to facilitate patient contacts and resolve any issues. Notifies Pharmacy Purchasing Technician of any canceled orders beyond adjudication to ensure that an accurate perpetual inventory is maintained.
Processes insurance claims and investigates insurance issues when needed to ensure proper pricing of claims and provide explanations as needed regarding copays and rejections.
Supports departmental and organizational Mission through appropriate use of resources, assisting team members and management, accepting work or scheduled assignments and acts as a role model to the team to provide suggestions and creative ideas for performance improvement.
Mentors new staff and assists with training when requested.
Performs other duties as assigned in Expedien or Rx Plus pharmacy operations.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
High School Diploma
2+ years of experience
Registered Pharmacy Technician
National Pharmacy Technician Certification, CPhT; complete national required continuing education requirement for registration
