UPMC Pinnacle in Harrisburg, PA is recruiting for an Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacist Specialist to advance and expand upon its existing Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
The ID Specialist will function as a member of the multidisciplinary antimicrobial stewardship team along with infectious diseases physicians, infection control professionals, members of the microbiology laboratory, and pharmacy leadership to ensure provision of appropriate patient-specific antimicrobial therapy in order to optimize clinical outcomes, enhance patient safety, and slow the development of antibiotic-resistant microorganisms. These goals will be achieved through a combination of direct patient care responsibilities, provision of educational activities, and development of anti-infective utilization monitoring and reporting metrics to demonstrate the efficacy of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
In order to ensure that antimicrobial stewardship activities are coordinated across the seven hospital health system, the ID Specialist will serve as a liaison among Medical Staff, Laboratory, Infection Control, Nursing, and Pharmacy stakeholders.
Additional responsibilities of coordinating and maintaining the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program may include - but will not be limited to development of infectious diseases-related order sets, assessment of compliance with antimicrobial usage guidelines and pathways, refinement of antimicrobial formulary restriction criteria, policy and procedure development, evaluation of laboratory diagnostics, participation on infectious diseases-related committees, education of UPMC Pinnacle employees regarding appropriate antimicrobial use, administering competency assessment programs to pharmacy staff, and management of the medication formulary.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree
Current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in Pennsylvania
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-2 in infectious diseases (or equivalent post-graduate fellowship experience)
