Pharmacy Manager provides direction and coordination of all activities of an assigned area in the Department of Pharmacy.
The Specialty Pharmacy Manager is a strategic leader and medication expert, providing leadership and coordination of specialty pharmacy clinical practice. This role will support centralized and decentralized medication-use systems and oversee the delivery of optimal medication therapy to patients with a variety of specialty disease states.
They will collaborate with providers, nurses, and other healthcare staff to provide exceptional patient-centered care in a centralized practice setting.
As a leader, they will provide guidance in creating evidence-based policies, procedures, clinical guidelines, and strategic business plans to optimize patient care and safety and achieve Best Care for patients of UTMB Health.
The Specialty Pharmacy Manager will work with pharmacy leadership to ensure optimal operational pharmacy services, inventory management, patient satisfaction, insurance requirements, URAC and ACHC Compliance, and 340B compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs all pharmaceutical care and drug distribution duties required of Clinical Staff Pharmacist and Senior Clinical Staff Pharmacist.
Supervises and manages the operation of the assigned pharmacy areas, including inventory control, controlled substances record keeping, and maintenance of drug information reference materials.
Supervises, manages, orients, trains, and evaluates all assigned professional and supportive personnel.
Addresses quality improvement opportunities while participating in various hospital patient care committees.
Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures completion of monthly unit/clinic audits.
Prepares personnel work schedules and ensures adequate staffing when absences occur.
Interviews/hires job applicants for vacant positions.
Develops proposals for new pharmaceutical care services.
Prepares work measurement reports and makes budget recommendations to the Director.
Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy and current license to practice pharmacy in the state of Texas. Five (5) years of related experience required.
ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification
Knowledge of URAC and ACHC compliance strongly preferred
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with a variety of professionals within various backgrounds.
Ability to develop, organize, and accomplish goals.
Technically competent knowledge of Pharmacy IS Systems, automated medication dispensing systems, physician order entry, and bar coding applications.
Ability to analyze / evaluate data and make appropriate recommendations / decisions.
Leadership and management skills to direct and guide others appropriately.
