The Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, an integral component of VCU Health, is seeking a highly motivated individual for a clinical pharmacy specialist position in critical care medicine. This challenging position provides opportunities to deliver high quality pharmacy care to medical respiratory ICU (MRICU) patients and collaborate with providers, nurses, and other healthcare providers on the provision of drug therapy.
Participate in MRICU multi-disciplinary patient care rounds
Ensure the optimal use of medications and related therapies including effectiveness, safety, and cost
Precept and educate pharmacy residents (PGY1 and PGY2) and students (APPEs)
Provide medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff education
Educate patients on medications and related therapies
Develop, update, and manage adult internal medicine protocols and guidelines
Conduct quality improvement projects and participate in clinical research
Review medication orders for completeness and accuracy
Assist physicians and other providers with the optimal use of the EMR regarding drug therapy
Cross-cover as needed for clinical pharmacists in other adult critical care units
