Riverside Cancer Infusion Center in Newport News & Williamsburg, Virginia are both currently seeking a full-time Pharmacist Specialist Oncology.
Overview: Works under the supervision of the Director of Ambulatory Infusion Services. May be designated by the Director of Ambulatory Infusion Services, or designee, as being in charge. The clinical pharmacist will be accountable for all aspects of pharmaceutical care within their assigned clinical locations including the day to day supervision of pharmacy technicians. Major responsibilities include monitoring, screening and verification of all medication and chemotherapy treatment plans for accuracy of dose, indication, route, treatment parameters and administration schedule. The incumbent will provide drug information for patients and team members. The incumbent must possess the skills and ability to assess data reflective of patient status and to interpret this information and identify the patients' needs in relation to age and/or disease specific requirements. The clinical pharmacist will supervise pharmacy technicians and may assist with the compounding of admixtures if needed. The clinical pharmacist will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents. Identifies opportunities to improve quality and safety of the medication use process for service area. Personal professional development to meet or exceed expectations with Board Certification in Oncology or specialty area. The clinical pharmacist will provide care as described in accordance with state and federal law and regulation, and facility policy and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
What you will do
Handles all aspects of pharmaceutical care within the assigned location including supervision of pharmacy technicians.
Assesses, implements, and evaluates pharmaceutical care that contributes to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes and stability of the patient.
Monitors, screens, and verifies all medication and chemotherapy treatment plans for accurate dose, indication, route, treatment parameters, and administrative schedule.
Provides drug information for patients and team members. Participation in the development and training of clinical staff. Participates patient education related to pharmaceutical care and disease state management.
Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents.
Actively participates in clinical programs that focus on appropriate pharmaceutical utilization, such as IV to PO, therapeutic substitution, renal dosing, restricted drug, non-formulary Participates in department, nursing unit, hospital, or health system based committees and projects.
Responds to questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
Monitors and contributes to staff performance by training and education. Provides supervision and directs pharmacy support personnel. Assists co-workers with the care of the customer. Verifies daily activities of pharmacy technicians. Participates in the performance appraisal of pharmacy support personnel. Precepts pharmacy students and/or residents.
Qualifications:
Graduate of school of pharmacy. If a foreign graduate of pharmacy, has completed all requirements for equivalency as outlined by the National Association of Board of Pharmacy (NABP) (Required)
3 years Clinical Pharmacist experience or ASHP approved PGY1 residency (Required)
Licensed Pharmacist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (Required)
Prefer candidate with completed PGY1 residency to also have one year of clinical pharmacy experience. Prior oncology experience preferred. (Preferred)
