JOB SUMMARY: The Director Outpatient Pharmacy is responsible for the oversight of multiple retail pharmacy departments including operations, finances, regulatory compliance and services in conjunction with hospital policies, standard practices of profession and state and federal laws. I. Plans, organizes and supervises pharmacy operations a. Ensures that services are provided in a timely, accurate, effective and cost-efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures, and practices. b. Develop, recommend, implement, and enforce departmental policies and procedures. II. Oversees inventory of pharmacy stock, assisting with placing and approving stock orders for supplies with vendors a. Manages the inventory to assure reasonable dollar investment, desirable turnover ratio with minimal supply problems or shortages. b. Assures quality of drugs at competitive prices for the hospital and patients. III. Develop, prepare, and manage annual budget which reflects equipment and supply needs of department a. Monitors all fiscal activities of the department versus budgets and makes necessary management corrections to assure positive financial performance. b. Develops and maintains all salary budgets with necessary corrections when appropriate. c. Prepares timely and accurate financial, statistical, and tracking reports and interpretation as required. IV. Manages and directs department staff to create and maintain and optimal work environment a. Effectively coordinates and administers department personnel policies and procedures in conjunction with selection, orientation, training, assignment and staffing, evaluation, discipline and discharging employees in compliance with applicable employment regulations. b. Establishes a climate that reduces obstacles and allows and promotes staff to formulate and practice own initiatives and perform at maximum achievement level. c. Identifies and provides opportunities for the staff to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the department. d. Assures proper educational role regarding pharmacy and pharmacology in support of medical education and nursing education. e. Actively participates on various committees on a periodic basis to provide communication, assist, and act as a technical resource, as needed to staff members and other personnel. V. Actively participates, supervises and assists as a pharmacist in compounding and dispensing medication and consults with and advises medical and nursing staff concerning information about medications a. Maintains and demonstrates accurate first-hand knowledge of professional pharmacist practices and techniques compounding and dispensing medication in the proper manner. b. Works with nursing to maintain specific policies and procedures for the appropriate administration of medication to patients. c. Develop and maintain formulary system to identify drugs in stock; periodically review inventory to ensure all medications are stored according to established security and environmental conditions. d. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Physicians, Department Managers, Patients, and Sales Representatives to provide needed services, gather and exchange information and order supplies. e. Coordinates the efforts of the Drug Information and Clinical Division to ensure accurate and unbiased consultation regarding drugs and drug therapy is readily available at all times. QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION - Bachelor's
- EXPERIENCE - A minimum of 5 years experience required
