The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice invites applications for the position of Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.  The Director will be a member of the clinical faculty and be responsible for setting the strategic direction and providing oversight for the services provided by our seven ambulatory and specialty pharmacies. The Director will also provide leadership and oversight for the various ambulatory patient-centered programs in place (e.g., prior authorization, medication assistance, discharge medication, mail order) that ensure patients receive their prescription medications both timely and efficiently.  This position has three associate directors reporting to it, with these individuals responsible for the daily management of the ambulatory and specialty pharmacies and medication-related programs.

In addition, this position has a major role in the development and implementation of strategic plans for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services, the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the College of Pharmacy (COP).  The Director identifies, assesses, and recommends entrepreneurial opportunities to pursue as well as identifies new and innovative ways to provide ambulatory and specialty pharmacy services.  This position serves as the Ambulatory Pharmacy Services representative on senior level committees within the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) as well as the COP.

Duties:

• Lead strategic planning efforts for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services; ensure plan complements those of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, COP, and UI Health.
• Work with the Executive Director of Pharmacy, Head of Pharmacy Practice, and senior college leadership in developing an annual budget for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services; monitor budget performance and institute corrective action when necessary.
• Work with the Executive Director of Pharmacy, Head of Pharmacy Practice, Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs, and the Dean of the COP on strategic space and capital planning, to forecast space and resource needs.
• Identify/justify/implement new services/programs to enhance the revenue generation for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.
• Work with the Associate Directors and direct reports to ensure the seamless provision of patient-centered pharmacy services in the ambulatory and specialty pharmacy setting; work with senior hospital pharmacy leadership to ensure continuity of pharmacy services from the inpatient to the ambulatory setting.
• Ensure new personnel requests for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services are supported and justified by data demonstrating the need for expansion and new positions.
• Serve as Ambulatory Pharmacy Services’ representative on senior level committees within UI Health as well as the COP; serve as Ambulatory Pharmacy Services’ point of contact for questions/issues arising in the ambulatory setting.
• Oversee the quality and outcomes programs to ensure that a continued high level of service, both from an outcomes and safety perspective, is provided by our ambulatory and specialty pharmacies.
• Ensure accreditation surveys are successful (e.g., URAC, ACHC, TJC) and that information needed for such surveys is readily accessible; ensure action plans are developed and implemented if required after surveys.
• Work with the Executive Director of Pharmacy, Head of Pharmacy Practice, and senior college leadership in establishing Ambulatory Pharmacy Services as a Center for Excellence for pharmacy services delivery and education.
• Organize, plan, implement, and support ambulatory pharmacy services related scholarship activities; support dissemination of results and showcase the impact of successful ambulatory and specialty pharmacy service programs.
• Coordinate, lead and participate in the didactic education and experiential training of student pharmacists; ensure opportunities are made available for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services staff to participate in these activities.
• Serve as a preceptor for the Ambulatory Pharmacy Services rotation for those pharmacy residencies that require it.
• Lead and coordinate the development of an annual report for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services.
• Take a leadership role in the advocacy efforts related to Ambulatory Pharmacy Services (e.g., 340B, white bagging, PBMs).
• Represent the COP, Department of Pharmacy Practice, and UI Health to the campus and community to enhance the mission of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the COP.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned that fall under the purview of the Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy Services

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
• PharmD or equivalent pharmacy degree
• Residency preferably the 2-year Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency or equivalent related experience
• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist by the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulati on by start date 
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in ambulatory pharmacy
• Minimum of 7 years’ experience at the level of Associate Director or equivalent managerial experience in pharmacy services, preferably in an academic medical center

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years’ experience at Director level
• Advanced training in business (e.g., MBA), public health (e.g., MPH), and/or health administration (e.g., MHCA)
• Demonstrable knowledge of contemporary ambulatory and specialty pharmacy services, including the laws and regulations that guide these services
• Effective oral and written communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with all levels of internal and external customers
• Proven success in managing financial operations, personnel, quality functions, and the professional aspects of pharmacy practice
• Experience in the preparation and analysis of operating and capital expense budgets
• Experience in didactic and experiential education programs
• Documented history of leading/participating in practice-based scholarly activities
• Comprehension of 340B drug pricing and leadership experience in Specialty Pharmacy
