Job Summary:
The Pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications as prescribed by authorized medical practitioners. The pharmacist will provide clinical services to patients in a safe, responsible manner, per the Board of Pharmacy.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Dispenses medications in accordance with written prescription orders and within Federal and State regulations.
- Receives and responds to telephone prescriptions from authorized practitioners.
- Establishes and maintains records relating to prescriptions, patient profiles, third-party billing and reconciliation including current pricing and adjudication of claims.
- Maintains current knowledge of pharmaceuticals and their related characteristics.
- Responds to telephone requests and/or verbal medication orders/requests.
- Supports the Pharmacy Technicians through the direct support of incoming calls by answering all pharmacy processing and drug and therapeutic oriented questions of patient.
- Contacts physician offices on behalf of patients for new prescriptions, refill requests and Prior Authorization processing.
- Must comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy and the drug enforcement administration, maintain records for controlled substances, supervise the work results of support personnel, maintain current registration, study existing and new legislation, anticipate legislation, and advise management on needed actions.
- Responds to customer needs in a manner which facilitates a high level of morale and cooperation in the store and promotes quality services and customer service.
- Provides patient medication therapy reviews as required.
- Ordering and maintaining adequate supplies of pharmaceuticals and related materials, as appropriate.
- Provide education and medication teaching to patients and advise on the use and storage of medications.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Licensure as a pharmacist, and in good professional standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- B.S. Pharm. or Pharm.D., required.
- Previous experience in a retail Pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Ability to work accurately and timely.
- Ability to work independently as well as communicate effectively with staff, customers, and physicians.
- Physical requirements include long periods of standing and walking and the ability to lift twenty pounds.
- Knowledge of third party billing and support of daily operational management.
