POSITION INFORMATION: Provides pharmaceutical care to oncology patient population as part of the multidisciplinary patient care team. Provides direct patient care in accordance with clinical guidelines, educates patients, family members, and staff, performs drug utilization reviews, assists in program development, and conducts research.
Clinical Guidelines. Reviews, and evaluates clinical guidelines for application to clinical practice. Develops internal guidelines for standard, evidence-based, consistent management of medications for oncology patients.
Direct Patient Care. Optimizes patient care outcomes by actively reviewing patient medication regimens to ensure the appropriateness, effectiveness, and safety of the oncology patient’s medication use.
Advanced clinical skills. Provides advanced clinical skills and input to the care of oncology patients and provides expert advice, at a specialist level, on pharmaceutical matters in oncology to patients, staff, and physicians.
Patient counseling and education. Provide patient/family counseling and education about oncology and supportive medications.
Staff education. Provide education about oncology and supportive medications to medical/surgical providers, students, and nursing staff.
Drug Utilization Review. Develops, reviews, and evaluates retrospective Drug Utilization Review (DUR) criteria.
Program Development. Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance programs for oncology pharmacy services, including, but not limited to, prevention of medication errors.
Research. Routinely evaluate current updates in service-specific literature.
As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Experience: Completion of accredited PGY2 Oncology Residency or 5 years experience in clinical oncology setting.
Certifications/ Licenses: Must be a licensed Pharmacist by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy or obtain licensure within 90 days of hire. Must possess or be able to obtain an Oklahoma Preceptor’s license by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy within one year of hire. BCOP preferred.
