Northeastern University’s Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship Program is a two-year fellowship designed to advance the education and training of Pharm.D. graduates in various areas of industry pharmacy including regulatory affairs, medical information/affairs, patient safety, outcomes research, and many other areas. The program is a collaboration between Northeastern University and biopharmaceutical industry partners.
Our program provides a dynamic academic environment offering fellows the opportunity for a wide breadth of experiences:
Develop teaching skills through participation in our Teaching and Learning Seminar series
Facilitate small and large group didactic education in partnership with a faculty mentor
Create, present, and publish scholarly research through collaborative industry and university relationships
Engage with faculty who participate in various interdisciplinary
Network with area residents and other Northeastern fellows via professional development programs, teaching seminars, and participation on fellowship committees

Clinical and Quantitative Pharmacology (CQP)
Northeastern University's School of Pharmacy and Vertex Pharmaceuticals will be partnering to offer a two-year Doctor of Pharmacy Clinical and Quantitative Pharmacology Fellowship Program at Vertex in Boston, MA starting July 2024. CQP comprises of both Clinical Pharmacology (CP) and Modeling & Simulations (M&S). CP provides pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) expertise, and M&S provides model-driven PK and PK/PD quantitative pharmacology expertise; both roles are crucial at all stages of drug development.
Vertex is providing an opportunity for fellows to gain hands-on experience in the CQP department with a focus on CP related activities. A CP fellow will learn various aspects of a clinical pharmacologist’s role, ranging from operational support to rigorous scientific analyses and drug development strategies. If fellows are interested in obtaining experience in M&S operations, additional opportunities can be provided upon request.
Responsibilities:
Training on standard software utilized in CQP (e.g., NONMEM, R, or Phoenix WinNonlin)
Analyzing and interpreting clinical trial results (pharmacokinetic and/or pharmacodynamic analysis)
Participating in drug development strategy planning
Contributing to clinical study protocols
Providing clinical trial operations support
Generating clinical pharmacology sections of clinical study reports
Designing and leading clinical pharmacology studies (first in human, bioavailability, drug-drug interaction, immunogenicity, etc.)
Performing Non-Linear Mixed Effect (NLME) modeling & simulation (e.g. population PK, PK-PD analyses) with standard software (e.g. NONMEM, R)
Implementing Model Informed Drug Development (MIDD) using quantitative approaches to address critical questions arising during drug development
Learning about other functions within Global Medicines Development & Affairs (GMDA) through rotational experiences upon request
Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited institution, eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Massachusetts.
Excellent oral and written communication, time management, and leadership skills, ability to work independently and take initiative on a variety of projects at the industry site and Northeastern.
