UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside is an academic learning center and serves as the flagship hospital system for UPMC. Located in the heart of Oakland, UPMC Presbyterian is an adult medical-surgical referral hospital and a site of ongoing research and graduate programs in conjunction with the University of Pittsburgh. Our hospital is a renowned center for organ transplantation and a recognized leader in cardiology with specialties in Cardiothoracic surgery, Critical care medicine, Trauma services, and Neurosurgery. Presbyterian is designated as a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center, a nationally certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, and as a Comprehensive Pulmonary Hypertension Center.
UPMC Shadyside is a nationally ranked, 520-bed non-profit, tertiary, teaching hospital located in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Cardiology – Additional Specifics
The PGY2 residency in cardiology is designed to transition PGY1 resident graduates from generalist practice to specialized practice that meets the needs of cardiovascular patients. It is defined as an organized, directed, accredited program that builds upon the competencies of PGY1 pharmacy training. This residency is focused in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, clinical research, and academia and is meant to increase the resident’s knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities to raise the resident’s level of expertise in medication therapy management and clinical and academic leadership. Graduates of the residency program have a storied history of assuming roles as inpatient/outpatient cardiovascular clinicians, clinical educators, and clinical researchers across the nation.

PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Solid Organ Transplant - Additional Specifics
The transplantation/solid organ pharmacy residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is designed for the individual interested in developing specialized clinical expertise in pharmaceutical care for transplant patients. UPMC is the premier health system in western Pennsylvania, one of the most renowned academic medical centers in the United States, and a world leader in the field of transplantation. The transplantation pharmacy resident will gain expertise in the management of transplant patients in all phases of their care, from the intensive care unit to the ambulatory clinic. The resident will gain expertise in pathophysiology of disease leading to the need for organ transplantation, the management of immunosuppressive therapy, acute and chronic post-transplant complications, therapeutic drug monitoring, and management of drug interactions.
