Clinical Pharmacist positions are available across Geisinger’s clinical enterprise including positions in acute care clinical practice, ambulatory care clinical practice, and hematology/oncology clinical practice. Pharmacist practitioners are engaged in all aspects of medication management and can engage in more than 20 clinical protocols through an extensive collaborative drug therapy management agreement.
Geisinger is host to seven different PGY1 programs, three PGY2 programs, and a combined PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL residency program. Additionally, the system hosts more than 250 pharmacy student rotation per year. All pharmacists are eligible for preceptorship to residency programs and/or student rotations.
Acute Care Facilities: Geisinger has 9 hospitals across its Pennsylvania service region, ranging in size from large academic medical centers to smaller community hospitals. Pharmacists in all settings practice as members of interdisciplinary care teams and provide leadership to several medication stewardship programs.
Ambulatory Care Clinics: Geisinger’s Medication Therapy Disease Management (MTDM) program has embedded pharmacists in primary care and specialty clinics across the service region. In addition, the Centralized Clinical Pharmacy Services (CCPS) program offers telephonic support for medication refill management, prior authorization, patient assistance, comprehensive medication reviews, anticoagulation management, and transitions of care.
Hematology/Oncology Practice: Geisinger’s Hematology/Oncology pharmacy services are part of a multidisciplinary program in both the inpatient and ambulatory setting. The program offers practice opportunities with medical oncology, hematology, stem cell transplant, ambulatory chemotherapy infusion clinic, oral chemotherapy clinic, multidisciplinary clinics, and clinical research.
Pharmacy at Geisinger has a long history of clinical practice and continues to be a national leader and best practice model in transforming health care through its integration of pharmacists as a necessary part of the patient care team and systematic medication therapy disease management. Pharmacists participate in drug reviews, guideline and policy development, medication use evaluations, nursing in-services and precepting of students and residents.
