PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.
The PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency draws upon the clinical foundation of entering residents, including general competencies for managing medication-use processes and support of optimal medication therapy outcomes. The residency trains individuals who can lead the evolution of organizations' medication-use processes by applying Pharmacy Informatics principles, standards, and best practices. Graduates are adept in the language and concepts of information technology, equipping them to function in an interprofessional environment.
The PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics residency at The Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) is a hospital based, 52-week residency program which combines clinical, managerial, and project-management experiences involving pharmacy informatics. The core objective of the program is to provide intensive training in clinical informatics, automation and technology, interdisciplinary collaboration, and clinical decision support as it relates to the medication-use system. At the conclusion of the program, residents will be well prepared to assume crucial roles in pharmacy informatics leadership, management, and interdisciplinary teams.
