Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is a 763-bed academic medical center affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The Clinical Staff II pharmacist in Internal Medicine will be part of the medicine service line composed of an Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist and other Clinical Staff II pharmacists in Internal and Family Medicine who cover five medicine teams. Clinical Staff II pharmacist responsibilities include a 50/50 split of rounding with a multidisciplinary healthcare team for inpatient faculty Internal Medicine services and providing day/evening decentralized zone coverage for various clinical units in 4-week alternating blocks. CRMH also has a pharmacy residency program comprised of 13 residents, including seven PGY1s, and six PGY2s in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, and Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership. Clinical Staff II pharmacists will be expected to serve as preceptors for pharmacy students and residents with IM rotation requirements, as well as participate in other resident learning experiences. Various other clinical experiences such as committee participation, process improvement, and research are available.
The Pediatric ICU pharmacist position is a new role for which we are seeking a leader in pediatrics. This specialist will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to critically ill pediatric patients and will develop and maintain a clinical practice by participating in clinical rounds in the PICU. The PICU specialist will work closely with a core group of pediatric pharmacists in Clinical Staff I, Clinical Staff II, and NICU specialty roles to enhance clinical pediatric services. Our pediatric pharmacists have established a rapport and close working relationships with a variety of pediatric providers, including pediatric intensivists, hospitalists, and multiple subspecialists (e.g. surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, palliative, ortho, etc.). An additional focus for this pharmacist will be to pursue process improvement initiatives to promote the growth of our pediatric clinical pharmacy services and improve patient care. The PICU pharmacist will work every fifth weekend, as well as one major and one minor holiday in a pediatric-focused clinical zone.

Various other clinical experiences involving pediatric process improvement, Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS), medical resident and student education, and research opportunities exist.
The Clinical Staff II Pediatrics pharmacist is a pediatric leader within the pharmacy department and works closely with multiple pediatric clinical pharmacists. This pharmacist shares duties with one other Clinical Staff II pediatric pharmacist, alternating between 4 weeks of rounding with a multidisciplinary healthcare team on the general pediatric unit and PICU and 4 weeks of day/evening decentralized work, including focused coverage of pediatric oncology, mother/baby units, and inpatient child/adolescent psychiatry. Weekend coverage is provided by the pharmacist during their decentralized block, averaging once every 4th weekend. CRMH also has a pharmacy residency program comprised of 13 residents, including seven PGY1s and six PGY2s in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, and Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership. Clinical Staff II pharmacists are expected to serve as preceptors for pharmacy students and residents for elective rotations, as well as participate in other resident learning experiences. Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure. An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is required and specialized PGY2 residency training is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as demonstrate advanced skills in critical thinking and analysis. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
