The PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL/MBA) Residency at Parkland is an organized, directed, postgraduate training program centered on the development of knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to lead the profession of pharmacy into the future. It is two consecutive 12 month training programs designed to comply with standards established by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) for both PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residencies. The two residency programs typically begin the last Monday in June and runs for 104 weeks/2 years/24 months.
The combined PGY1 & PYG2 Health System Residency combined with a Masters in Business Administration is designed to prepare the resident for future leadership roles in a large health system environment.
PGY1 learning experiences: Orientation, Decentral Clinical Pharmacist Training, Internal Medicine (choose two of four options), Medical Intensive Care Unit, Infectious Disease, Medication Safety, Formulary Management, Administration, Ambulatory Care, Infectious Disease, and 2 electives
Parkland is a Level I trauma center serving the indigent patients of Dallas County. Parkland serves as the primary teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. More than 60 percent of the doctors in the Dallas area have undergone formal training at Parkland.
The hospital system boasts several Centers of Excellence with the most skilled health professionals and state-of-the-art tools and equipment. Our areas of excellence include: Trauma, Burns, Spinal Cord Injuries, Cancer, Endocrinology, Women & Infants, Epilepsy, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, and Orthopedics.
The Parkland Pharmacy department consists of more than 500 personnel. The ambulatory services include over 150 specialty clinics, 12 community oriented primary care clinics, Jail Health and Mobile HOMES homeless outreach program.
