The Atlantic Health System Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Critical Care Pharmacy Residency is an ASHP-accredited twelve-month training program designed to produce independent clinical pharmacy specialists with expertise in critical care pharmacotherapy. Residents rotate at Atlantic Health System’s two academic medical centers (Overlook Medical Center, Morristown Medical Center) which combine for a total of 1239 licensed beds and 104 ICU beds. Required learning experiences include medical intensive care I and II, surgical intensive care I and II, neurosciences intensive care, cardiac surgery intensive care, emergency medicine/trauma, and infectious diseases. Elective rotation experiences are offered in a variety of specialty areas including but not limited to cardiac intensive care, pediatric intensive care, and toxicology (in conjunction with the NJ Poison Control Center). The resident will longitudinally participate in emergency response, clinical research, development of an ACPE-accredited continuing education program, medical resident education, critical care committee service, and clinical weekend staffing. Funding is provided for travel and attendance at the Society of Critical Care Medicine Congress and a second meeting at the discretion of the program.
Applicants to the Atlantic Health System PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program must meet all the following criteria:
Received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy degree program or have Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy
Completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program or one in the ASHP accreditation process prior to the start of the residency year
Be eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist by the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy
Atlantic Health System consists of five hospitals caring for patients of various socioeconomic backgrounds in northern New Jersey and surrounding areas. Training sites for the pharmacy residency program include Morristown Medical Center (Morristown, NJ) and Overlook Medical Center (Summit, NJ) which combine for 1239 licensed inpatient beds. Both hospitals are consistently ranked in the top 4 hospitals in NJ by US News and World Report.
