At Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital (HMSL), a full-service, acute care community hospital, the PGY1 pharmacy residency program offers the residents a unique combination of individually tailored clinical experiences, drug information opportunities, medication safety initiatives, and research endeavors. Residents will have the opportunity to advance the growth of the pharmacy profession by contributing to the medical and pharmacy literature and developing clinical, teaching, and leadership skills. At the completion of the PGY1 program, the residents will be well equipped and qualified to continue in a PGY2 residency program or begin professional service in a clinical, hybrid, or operational role within a complex care health system.
The program provides core experiences in Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Pharmacy Management, Emergency Medicine, and Medication Safety. Elective experiences in Ambulatory care (with emphasis on Oncology), Neonatal ICU, Neurology, and Transitions of Care are available.
The PGY1 residents will be precepted and mentored by board-certified preceptors in various specialized practice areas and will work alongside highly trained and professional pharmacy staff.
