UNC Health Rex is the largest community hospital in the UNC Healthcare system. We are an accredited primary stroke and chest pain center, and a Bariatric Center of Excellence as well as a comprehensive community Cancer Center. UNC Health Rex is a premier hospital for acute cardiac care and the main regional referral center. We have a full-spectrum of emergency cardiac care programs, such as IABP, PVAD, CABG, adult ECMO, as well as structural heart disease procedures including TAVR, Mitraclip, Watchman, and state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs
The PGY2 resident in cardiology at UNC Health Rex will provide cardiovascular pharmacy services within inpatient critical care, intermediate care, and procedural patient care areas. In the outpatient setting, the PGY2 resident will work within the Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner model by providing daily service in the areas of cardiovascular medication management and monitoring in an independent practice. Residents who successfully complete the UNC Health Rex PGY2 pharmacy residency in Cardiology are prepared for positions in advanced patient care, academic, or other specialties, along with board certification in cardiology.
This residency has received accreditation by ASHP.

Staffing:
The resident will staff every 4th weekend in the clinical critical care and cardiology patient care areas and one evening shift from 15:30-21:30 per month, excluding Friday evenings.
Teaching and Leadership:
Serve as primary preceptor for at least 2 pharmacy students with opportunities to precept PGY1 pharmacy residents
Present didactic teaching sessions at a local college of pharmacy
Present an ACPE accredited CE to the UNC Health system
Opportunity to deliver an interdisciplinary journal club presentation
Select and lead initiatives for cardiovascular services at REX
Participate and present in the multidisciplinary cardiovascular service line committee
Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency program. Must be an active pharmacist and eligible for licensure in the state of North Carolina
