The PGY2 Infectious Diseases residency program is designed to provide a solid foundation of patient-care and the management, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases in the adult patient.
The resident will complete 10 months of clinical rotations gaining experience in both acute and critical care settings as well as Antimicrobial Stewardship and Rapid Molecular Diagnostics - actively participating in the care of patients in specialty populations such as Solid Organ Transplant and Bone Marrow Transplant. Portions of the residency year will be spent working with Houston Methodist Division of Infectious Diseases providers and researchers, Pathology and Genomic Medicine, Microbiology, and Infection Prevention and Control. Elective experiences exist in critical care (medical and surgical), oncology, and off-site ID Consult/Stewardship (among others).
Training among a group of 50 clinical pharmacists and 22 residents, the PGY2 ID resident will have ample teaching opportunities including providing instruction to doctor of pharmacy students and mentoring PGY1 residents. The resident will provide an ACPE-accredited CE program and can participate in an optional teaching certificate program through the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Additionally, the resident will play an active role in maintaining an Antimicrobial Stewardship Program within a large health system
