The goal of the program is to develop geriatric pharmacotherapy specialists with strong teaching and leadership skills who provide exceptional patient care services for older adults, contribute to the body of literature in geriatric pharmacotherapy, and teach multiple disciplines about the needs of the aging population.
The robust curriculum is longitudinal and includes learning experiences in innovative, inter-professional environments including:
Continuing care retirement communities
Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE)
Long term care
Hospice and palliative care
Memory care clinic
Geriatric consult clinic
Effective teaching is emphasized, and opportunities exist in layered learning practice environments as well as in a geriatrics elective course for student pharmacists.
