Inpatient Psychiatry
Carilion Job Posting The CNRV inpatient psychiatry location is licensed for 36 adult beds. The Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Pharmacy provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to adults in the inpatient psychiatry units to assure safe and effective drug therapy. The Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric Pharmacy will develop and maintain a clinical practice by collaborating with attending providers and residents on the inpatient psychiatry teams to assist with medication management of complex psychiatric disease states and chronic medical conditions. Rounding experiences include academic team-based rounds and interdisciplinary rounds.
Facilitating continuity of medication-related care from admission through discharge is a focus. Additional activities include collaborating with the Psychiatry Department to develop policies and protocols that provide effective and efficient use of medications, educating patients and health care providers, reviewing and processing medication orders, and providing consultation for psychiatry providers in the ED and ambulatory settings. This position would also include relevant committee representation, staff education, and precepting pharmacy students. This position would be directly involved in precepting an required rotation for PGY1 pharmacy residents. Opportunities for involvement in the psychiatry residency and fellowship programs also exist.
Emergency Medicine (job posting - coming soon)
The Emergency Medicine Clinical Specialist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to adult and pediatric patients in a variety of acuity levels to assure safe and effective drug therapy. The Emergency Medicine Clinical Specialist will develop and maintain a clinical practice by responding to trauma and medical emergencies. Carilion New River Valley Medical Center is a Level III trauma center.
The day/evening shift EM specialist position will work a 7 on/7 off day/evening schedule, alternating with a specialist counterpart. Activities include collaborating with members of the Emergency Department to develop policies and protocols that provide effective and efficient use of medications, providing consultation for other health care providers, educating patients and other health care providers, reviewing and processing medication orders, and overseeing medication history efforts in the Emergency Department. This position would be directly involved in precepting pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents, as well as supporting longitudinal residency precepting efforts such as professional presentations, research projects, and medication use evaluations.

Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure. An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is required and specialized PGY2 residency training in Psychiatric Pharmacy/Emergency Medicine or Critical Care is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as demonstrate advanced skills in critical thinking and analysis. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills are required.
