The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency is a 12-month program that provides specialized training in ambulatory care. The primary practice site for the program is the Turley Family Health Center. Our program is integrated with the USF-MPM Family Medicine Residency and is designed for residents to interact with other healthcare providers in the setting of a Patient-Centered Medical Home. We provide care for a broad primary care population, including pediatrics and geriatrics. We strive to improve patient outcomes through direct patient care and interprofessional education.
The Turley Family Health Center emphasizes a team-based approach in preventive care and advanced medication management of acute and chronic health conditions encountered in the ambulatory setting. Direct patient care is the foundation of this program. Our pharmacy clinic operates with collaborative practice agreements for management of chronic health conditions, including:
Anticoagulation
Type 2 diabetes
Hyperlipidemia
Hypertension
Asthma
COPD
Tobacco dependence
Obesity
Secondary practice sites provide experience in other important areas of ambulatory pharmacy. The longitudinal experience is integrated with a block schedule, including:
Ambulatory Pharmacy Management
Population Health Pharmacy
Transitions of Care
Behavioral Health
Geriatrics
Electives: MTM/HIV Clinic, Medication Assistance
Other longitudinal experiences include:
Staffing for medication refill assessment and authorization
Teaching other healthcare professionals and pharmacy students
Project management including presentations, development of a formal business plan, and major research project.
Resident Qualifications:
Participation in, or completion of, an ASHP accredited or ASHP candidate status PGY1 pharmacy residency.
Graduate from Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program or one in process of pursuing accreditation.
Ability to be fully licensed as a pharmacist in Florida within 90 days of beginning the residency.
Application Process:
Residency candidates should submit all requirements for acceptance through the PhORCAS website. Once submitted, applications will be reviewed, and candidates will be selected for interviews. After interviews are completed, a rank list will be submitted to ASHP via the National Matching Service. The ASHP Resident Matching Program will provide the program with matched candidates.
