The Medication-Use Safety & Policy (MUSP) residency at UK HealthCare is an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency designed to train pharmacists to become experts in medication safety, drug information, and medication policy within health systems. This one-year residency program allows the resident to learn and apply medication safety concepts and drug information skills throughout the medication-use system to improve the quality of patient care.
The resident will gain experience with the implementation and management of smart pumps, automated dispensing cabinets, and medication error reports. The resident will participate in P&T and lead interdisciplinary committees and projects, with areas of emphasis including pharmacy operations, pharmacy automation, informatics, formulary management and utilization, drug shortages, accreditation, and medication error prevention, detection, and investigation.
Residents continue their clinical growth by completing one direct patient care rotation, providing longitudinal staffing, and have the option of participating in the in-house on-call program. Residents will also gain experience in teaching, precepting, and research through engagement with the UK College of Pharmacy, completing a research project, and presenting at a professional conference.
