The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics.  Within the department, there are 45 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 31 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

Position Summary:

This position reports to the Operations Manager for Clinical Services in the Adult Medicine, Emergency, and Surgery Pharmacy Division. Applicants are preferred to have completed (or be in the process of completing) an ASHP accredited PGY1 residency program or have equivalent clinical experience. The Clinical Pharmacist for Surgery is one of three clinical pharmacists that provides clinical pharmacy services to non-ICU surgical patients on multiple units serving as the drug expert helping to manage the complex pharmacotherapy regimen of each patient. The clinical pharmacist actively manages and adjusts medication therapies with prescribers and helps manage drug costs by ensuring formulary and stewardship guidelines are followed. Responsibilities for the position include: comprehensive medication management, interdisciplinary decision making, emergency code response, care coordination, education, policy/procedure development, and research activities. They will provide drug information and education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners

Employee Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in PharmD or BS degree. Completion of an ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience is desired. Requires comprehensive knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and drug information. Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland required. Departmental Intravenous (IV) Certification (includes aseptic technique and hazardous substance handling) within 90 days upon hire. Minimum of one year of hospital experience with responsibility for the supervision of pharmacy personnel is desired.
