The role of the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist – Emergency Medicine is to fulfill Norton’s mission, vision, and values through providing evidence-based collaborative patient centered care in the ED during peak patient visit times. The EM specialist will ensure system wide medication formulary compliance through active engagement with providers. Core service areas of the EM specialist are medication error reduction, care of disease states associated with quality metrics including participation in emergency response, expediting ED patient throughput, antimicrobial stewardship, medication history/reconciliation of targeted patients, and facilitation of ED discharge prescriptions and patient counseling. This position requires a high level of interaction with physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare team members and pharmacy leadership in problem solving and medication use-process optimization.
The EM clinical specialist optimizes medication therapy by developing and championing system wide strategies in medication use processes to optimize patient outcomes, reduce/minimize adverse drug events and costs. Working collaboratively with physicians and other members of the healthcare team, the pharmacist will develop new EM pharmacy services and guidelines/order sets/protocols that improve evidence-based practice.
The EM clinical specialist will also have responsibilities in precepting students and residents on clinical patient care experience and longitudinal research experience. The specialist will participate in nursing and provided education.

Represent the pharmacy department on applicable committees and teams. Participate in development and implementation of new EM pharmacy services.

Basic Education, Training, and Experience Required
Education
Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a BS in Pharmacy or a PharmD degree (preferred)
Completion of Post Graduate Year 1 residency program or equivalent practice experience (Required)
Post Graduate Year 2 residency program in Emergency Medicine or Critical care or equivalent practice experience (Desired)
Credentials
Registered Pharmacist (KY Board of Pharmacy) or eligible for licensing on hire
Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) or Board Certified Critical Care Specialist (BCCCP) or Board Certified Emergency Medicine Pharmacist (BCEMP) (Desired)
