The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency at Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM) is a 12 month program that allows residents to accelerate their growth beyond generalist practice and contributes to the development of clinical pharmacists with specialized training. Our program at EUHM offers residents a unique exposure to ambulatory care by providing a core foundation in primary care as well as multi-disciplinary specialty clinics. The resident will also integrate into the specialty pharmacy team and develop skills in navigating and managing the specialty medication approval process, patient education and specialty pharmacy operations. Residents within our program are provided with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings.
The goal of this PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency is to train the pharmacist to function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team who is able to provide comprehensive medication management to a diverse patient population in a variety of ambulatory care settings. Through distinctive learning experiences, the resident will additionally have opportunities for both personal and professional development.
Residents’ initial self-evaluations and interests are used to formulate customized training plans and learning experiences schedules. A tentative year-long schedule is developed at the beginning of the residency. The schedule is flexible and subject to change depending on department activities, preceptor availability and resident interest and learning needs.

The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency Program at EUHM is designed to provide the resident with a solid foundation of core experiences, a strong clinical base, a commitment to teaching, an appreciation for clinical research, and ample opportunity for pursuing individual interests. The program builds upon broad-based competencies established during the resident's PGY1 program, allowing the resident to further develop and refine multiple skill sets (i.e. practice foundation, direct patient care, drug information, policy development, and practice management). This is accomplished by participating in patient care activities through daily rounding with the medical team, optimizing drug therapy, educating medical staff & patients, answering drug information questions, assisting in the continuity of care from inpatient to outpatient, preparing appropriate chemotherapy orders, participating in ongoing quality improvement activities, and acting as a resource for pharmacokinetic and other clinical activities. On completion of the program, the resident is prepared to excel in any oncology setting, particularly in an academic teaching center. The resident should also possess the competencies to become a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP).
The overarching goal of this residency program is to train outstanding oncology clinical pharmacy specialists and future leaders in the field. This program utilizes the collective assets of Emory Hospitals and Winship Cancer Institute, in educating and training residents in the following areas:
Clinical practice: Residents will become familiar with different types of malignancies, treatment modalities, and antineoplastic agents used to treat patients. Residents will learn how to incorporate their clinical knowledge in day-to-day practice and how to function independently as a member of the healthcare team.
Teaching: Residents will be involved in teaching pharmacy practice residents, pharmacy students, nursing staff, as well as other members of the healthcare team.
Research: Residents will learn how to set up and conduct a clinical study. Investigational Review Board (IRB) and institutional research committee approval will be obtained.
Others: Residents will utilize practice management skills to promote rational and safe use of medications. Residents will master personal development skills for life-long learning and professional growth.
