The pharmacy intern serves a dual function within the Pharmacy Department and the Medical Center: 1) assist pharmacists with their day to day duties and responsibilities by learning and performing the technical aspects of pharmacy practice, 2) learn to function at the level of staff pharmacist by learning and performing the duties of the position and attaining competency to apply pharmacotherapy knowledge to the patient care setting. The primary goal of the pharmacy intern is development into a competent practitioner upon graduation and licensure. All duties and responsibilities of the pharmacy intern are performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist acting as preceptor according to the State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently enrolled in an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy AND holds or is eligible for a Pennsylvania Pharmacy Intern License and is in good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy
OR Student in first two years of college AND has been accepted into an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy
Each intern must register a Hershey Medical Center pharmacist as their Intern preceptor according to the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
Must exhibit good verbal and written communication skills, enthusiasm for the profession of pharmacy, and compassion for patients
Must be able to physically perform functions such as: 1) lifting and transporting of cartons and medications, 2) telephone communication, 3) computer order/data entry, 4) preparation of intravenous and extemporaneous compounding
