Job Overview
The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist ensures safe, appropriate, and economical use of drugs through the application of specialized skills and knowledge in pediatric patient care.
The Department of Pharmacy provides comprehensive clinical services to patients at Children's Hospital Colorado. The clinical pharmacy services complement the team approach to providing care to the most fragile of patients. This ambulatory clinical specialist will help ensure the safe and effective use of medication and optimization of outpatient regimens for our patients. This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining pharmacy ambulatory care services based in our Denver Metro Network of Care. This pharmacist will be empowered to create partnerships with physicians to bill for services and work collaboratively with providers across our Network of Care.
Additional Information
Department: Network of Care Pharmacy Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits. Shift: Day, Monday-Friday. This role also requires every 4th weekend and rotating holidays. Shifts on weekends and holidays will rotate between days and evenings. Additionally, this is a float position, and this team member will be expected to support our campuses at North, South, Southeast Aurora and Wheat Ridge, which will be a mix of in person and remote shifts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Designs and leads pharmaceutical outcomes research. Identifies opportunities for and participates in drug utilization reviews and research. Identifies opportunities for publishing case reports, unique therapeutic interventions, development of practice standards, and other medication related pharmacy topics.
Demonstrates sustained record of contributing to the pharmacy practice knowledge through: Publications in professionals journals or books, Posters/presentations at professional meetings (regional/national level), Review of book chapters and manuscripts submitted for publication.
Participates in the education of pharmacy staff, nursing staff, medical staff, pharmacy residents and students, other healthcare allied professionals and patients and families. Serves as a preceptor and mentor for pharmacy residents and students.
Participates on a hospital committee(s)
Provides drug information services by responding to questions regarding medication compatibilities, adverse drug events, regimens, dosing, interactions, storage and disposal, compounding, therapeutic uses of medications and pharmaceutical supplies in a timely manner; using a systematic approach to effectively searching, retrieving, and evaluating the literature and appropriately communicating and applying the information to the patient care situation; and assisting with the development, maintenance, and implementation of hospital and department policy and procedures related to medication use, storage, restrictions, and administration.
Sustains and implements quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS). Demonstrates sustained record of identifying and leading quality improvement/assurance initiatives.
Sustains clinical pharmacy services throughout the organization by providing pharmaceutical care for pediatric patients of all age ranges through participation in multi-disciplinary team rounds and/or care, emergency response, education, guidance, interpretation and analysis of medication related therapeutic issues; documenting pharmaceutical interventions according to departmental standards; performing therapeutic drug monitoring and disease outcome analysis; and timely verification of medication orders in an electronic health record system.
Participate in general pharmacy operations throughout the organization through appropriate medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory control. Provides oversight to pharmacy technicians, interns, residents and students as needed.

Qualifications
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree. Experience: Two (2) years of residency experience or one (1) year of residency plus three (3) years of work experience. Equivalency: Three (3) years of pharmacy work experience in area of specialty accepted in lieu of 2nd year of residency. Certification(s): BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute accepted). Licensure(s): State of Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) Pharmacy license.
About Children's Hospital Colroado - Network of Care
Children's Hospital Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CHCO) is a private, nonprofit free-standing pediatric academic medical center, that is 100% dedicated to caring for kids at all ages and stages of growth. We provide comprehensive pediatric care at our hospital on Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) and at several locations throughout the region. CHCO AMC is the only dedicated Level 1 trauma center in our seven-state region, handling the most challenging emergencies.
Our PGY2 focuses on training highly qualified clinical pediatric pharmacists. Our program places emphasis on developing leadership skills applicable in any pediatric setting and preparing the resident for leadership roles in the profession. We provide generous travel support and encourage professional involvement beyond CHCO. Allowing the resident to focus the year on their subspecialty interest is an important aspect of our program and is based upon their PGY1 experience and completion of core requirements. CHCO also provides the option to further specialize during the PGY2 year, through the Pediatric Specialty Pathways of pediatric critical care and pediatric oncology pharmacy residency training.
