The South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Audie Murphy Hospital in affiliation with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy offers a PGY2 residency with experienced faculty in pain management and palliative care. This comprehensive post-doctoral clinical pharmacy training program is designed to develop autonomous pain management and palliative care clinical pharmacy specialists by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge into the provision of advanced patient care. Residents who successfully complete this program are prepared for board certification, advanced practice settings, and academic or other specialized careers.
Intended outcomes of the program include: function as an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team; provide comprehensive medication management to complex palliative care and pain patients in a variety of care settings; serve as an educator for patients, caregivers, and other health care providers and trainees; exhibit professional leadership and management skills; display self-motivation for professional and personal growth as an independent practitioner; and demonstrate the ability to proactively identify and meet opportunities available in the provision of pharmaceutical care to palliative care patients and patients with acute and chronic pain (malignant and non-malignant).

Strong interest in pain management clinical pharmacy practice
U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
Completion of an ACPE-accredited Pharm.D. Degree program
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program
Participation in the ASHP Resident Matching Program
Eligibility for Pharmacist Licensure in any of the 50 states
