Purpose Statement

The PGY-2 Pediatric residency program, at Lee Health - Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY-1 residency program experience to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in the specialized area of pediatrics. Our program is designed to equip the PGY-2 resident with the skills necessary to optimize pediatric care as independent practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge by incorporating both into the provision of medication management. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency should possess competencies that qualify them for clinical pharmacist and/or faculty positions and poise them to be eligible for attainment of board certification in the specialized practice area.

The PGY-2 Pediatric Residency Program at Lee Health is committed to providing excellent training experiences to advance the resident's clinical skills, knowledge base and professional interests. The program is dedicated to preparing future pediatric pharmacy clinicians and leaders by promoting confidence, leadership and professional skills.

Core Clinical Rotations

The Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Pediatric Pharmacy Resident is required to take 8 Core Clinical Rotations that are 4-6 weeks in duration and include the following:

• Orientation/Pharmacy Practice Leadership Concentrated (6 weeks)
• Pediatric Medication/Surgical Care (4 weeks)
• Pediatric Intensive Care Unit I (6 weeks) & II (4 weeks)
• Neonatal Intensive Care Unit I (6 weeks) & II (4 weeks)
• Pediatric Infectious Disease and Antimicrobial Stewardship (4 weeks)
• Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (4 weeks)

Requirements

• Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 program
