Position Description: The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital is recruiting highly motivated Clinical Specialist Pharmacists to provide pharmaceutical care for Hematology/Oncology patients. In the inpatient setting, the Clinical Specialist Pharmacists round with an inter-disciplinary team and collaborate with other providers including physicians, advanced nurse practitioners, and nurses to provide optimal pharmaceutical care. In the outpatient setting, pharmacists work in collaboration with the physicians, nurse practitioners, and research coordinators in therapy selection, supportive care measures and act as an educator/liaison between infusion nursing, infusion pharmacy, and the inpatient team. All Clinical Specialist Pharmacists are charged with ensuring appropriate medication therapy, implementing clinical protocols and guidelines, monitoring relevant medication therapy, reviewing and releasing chemotherapy, and enhancing the quality and delivery of evidence-based medicine. Longitudinal responsibilities include precepting and multidisciplinary education, research protocol review, treatment plan review, committee involvement, and participation in clinical research.

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital is currently recruiting for hematology and oncology clinical specialist pharmacists in the inpatient and outpatient setting.

Description of institution/organization: The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital is ranked nationally as one of the top hospitals for cancer care, maintaining an “exceptional” rating –the highest descriptor given by the National Cancer Institute, and is the third largest cancer center in the nation.  Our inpatient facility opened in December 2014, has 21 floors spanning 1.1 million square feet, revolutionizes the way cancer prevention and care are provided, with over 200 specialized oncologists and cancer researchers. The 356-bed adult cancer clinical care facility, including a 36-bed blood and marrow transplant unit, is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, the National Cancer Institute’s National Clinical Trial Network— notably one of only four centers funded by the NCI to conduct both Phase I and II clinical trials on novel anticancer drugs, achieved Magnet® designation for excellence in patient care, and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the American College of Surgeons Common on Cancer and the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy. The Department of Pharmacy consists of inpatient and outpatient hematology/oncology clinical specialist pharmacists, pain and palliative medicine pharmacists, anti-coagulation pharmacists, cancer informatics pharmacists, medication assistance pharmacists, and Hematology/Oncology specialty practice pharmacy residents.
