The Ascension Rx PGY1/2 Clinical Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency is a 24-month program. The resident will train extensively in the foundational aspects of contemporary, corporate health-system administration so that she or he may emerge an elite and highly competitive candidate for a post-resident leadership position in the profession. The PGY1 residency year consists of robust clinical rotation experiences at diverse practice settings within the Tennessee market, including adult, pediatric, academic, and community-based hospitals. The PGY2 resident will work virtually with the national leadership team in experiences ranging from clinical and operational pharmacy administration, system-wide finance, formulary management and cost-efficacy dynamics, system-wide implementation of guidelines and directives, informatics, contracting and executive leadership.
The PGY1 learning experiences include rotations in Antimicrobial Stewardship/Infectious Diseases, Pharmacotherapy, and Internal Medicine (2 months), as well as Management/Advanced Management (2 months), and Anticoagulation. Residents also participate in Longitudinal Learning Experiences throughout the 12-month program and have the opportunity to choose from a variety of elective rotations, such as Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and others.
The PGY2 learning experiences consist of rotations in Executive Pharmacy Leadership, Clinical Pharmacy Leadership, Quality and Clinical Outcomes, Pharmacy Finance, 340B Program Administration and Addressing Medication Outcome Disparities. The program also includes 12-month Longitudinal Learning Experiences and a range of elective rotations, such as Opioid Stewardship, Informatics, and more.
