The Infectious Diseases / Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will serve as a leader within the pharmacy division and work closely with multiple pharmacists, providers, nurses, and other staff. They will be responsible for covering the General Infectious Disease Consult Services, Transplant Infectious Disease Consult Services, Antimicrobial Stewardship Services and assist with Infectious Disease Clinic questions. Clinical Pharmacy Specialists also provide administrative support to the division and participate in various department and hospital wide committees. This includes creation and review of policies, procedures, and guidelines within their specialty area, oversight of formulary management, and assist in training of clinical staff and leaders including competency assessments. This role will also provide operational support, clinical on call coverage, and weekend clinical coverage on a rotating basis. Academic scholarship is also expected of this role including but not limited to authorship, presentations, and attendance at national meetings. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will be expected to serve as a preceptor for students, our PGY1, PGY2 pediatrics, and PGY2 oncology residency programs. They will also be expected to help create and execute collaborative practice opportunities at Children’s National.
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Completion of a four-year pharmacy program in an accredited college of pharmacy is required.
Experience: ASHP-accredited Pharmacy PGY1 Pharmacy residency required; PGY2 required – infectious diseases preferred, pediatrics accepted. Must have experience in a pediatric, specialized, academic, or clinical setting.
Licensure: Licensed as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia prior to start date. Board Certification must be obtained within one year of hire date.
Other qualifications: Good leadership, communication, and teamwork skills, as well as critical thinking and analytical skills.
