POST-DOCTORAL PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY FELLOWSHIP – Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, has over 40 years of expertise in offering innovative Post-Doctoral Pharm.D. Fellowships that provide extensive training in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industry. This 2-year Fellowship position is a joint effort between the Rutgers Institute for Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowships (RPIF) and Bristol Myers Squibb. Program emphasis is Policy & Patient Advocacy. This 2-year Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to work with seasoned professionals within both US Policy & Government Affairs and Global Patient Outreach. The Fellow will gain experience working across a matrix team (commercial, clinical development, medical, HEOR, market access, communications and legal) to gather expert patient advocate insights, engage with relevant non-profit organizations, develop advocacy plans that optimize access to high quality medicines for patients and incorporate patient input into the drug development lifecycle continuum. During this time of continued reform and evolution of the U.S. healthcare system, the Fellow will develop a deep understanding of how healthcare policies are developed and implemented within the US, and how they impact patients, providers, payers, and the biopharmaceutical industry. The Fellow will interact and collaborate with stakeholders across Bristol Myers Squibb and gain experience working with patient advocacy organizations, professional societies, trade associations, policy stakeholders and other entities that contribute to the policymaking process and the overall changing healthcare landscape. Fellows will gain firsthand experience accompanying colleagues to Capitol Hill visits and attending policy focused conferences and programming to understand access and affordability issues that impact patients, while collaborating with external stakeholders to align on public policy.

U.S. POLICY & GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS 

• Evaluate U.S. healthcare policy proposals and conduct thorough analyses to support the federal and state government affairs teams in formulating strategic policy positions across multiple therapeutic areas
• Support Bristol Myers Squibb engagement with pharmaceutical industry trade associations and various stakeholders on initiatives related to critical public policy issues, with a focus on patient access to innovative medicines
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of how public policy issues impact the biopharmaceutical industry, patients, caregivers, providers, and the broader healthcare delivery system 

GLOBAL PATIENT OUTREACH 

• Empower and embed patient experts and patient lived experience throughout BMS’s drug discovery, development, and delivery process primarily through strategic partnerships focused on disease and therapeutic awareness and increasing access and health equity around the world
• Support advocacy initiatives that educate patients and providers to better understand treatment options and novel therapies for patients with serious diseases
• Partner and engage with priority US and global patient advocacy organizations to increase awareness of emerging science and inform BMS strategy
• Ensure the patient voice is elevated and central in all BMS patient advocacy initiatives and resources, to best support access to care and overcome key barriers

The RPIF Program application portal opens at 12 PM ET on October 8th.  Initial interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis virtually (video conference) starting October 20th. To apply, candidates MUST use the RPIF website (http://pharmafellows.rutgers.edu/how-to-apply/) to create a RPIF Candidate Account and upload the required application materials by the dates noted below. Remember that the application process is on a rolling basis, so earlier is better.  Please see our website for additional important recruitment information and dates. 

Initial offers will not be made until December 12th, the AIFA (Alliance of Industry Fellowship Associates) consensus date for first offers.  Once all interviews have been completed, RPIF or the company will notify interviewed candidates of their position-specific candidacy status.

1. Applications are considered on a rolling basis. The earlier you submit materials, the sooner your candidacy can be considered. Complete the brief RPIF portal short-answer questions and you should upload your Letter of Intent and Curriculum Vitae (CV) by October 17th, 2025.
2. Begin securing letters of recommendation because all 3 must be received before you can be fully considered for an offer. All 3 letters of recommendation should be submitted by December 1st, 2025.
