Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is among the largest public health systems in Florida and consistently recognized as one of the nation's best hospitals. Sarasota Memorial Hospital (Sarasota Campus) is an 897-bed flagship hospital that serves as the region's health care safety net, with Sarasota County's only trauma center, obstetrical services, neonatal intensive care unit, inpatient pediatrics unit and psychiatric services for patients of all ages. With about 10,000 staff, over 900 physicians and 700 volunteers, it is Sarasota County's largest employer.Sarasota Memorial is the only hospital in Florida to have consistently earned the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid's highest 5-star rating for overall quality and safety since the rating system launched in 2016. The pharmacy residency program began in 1999 and has since expanded to include a PGY2 program in Emergency Medicine and PGY2 program in Critical Care. In collaboration with Florida State University, Sarasota Memorial expanded its medical training opportunities with the introduction of the Internal Medicine Medical Residency Program in 2017 and Emergency Medicine Medical Residency Program in 2019, allowing for a collaborative learning environment between physician and pharmacy residents.
