The Nebraska Medicine ASHP-accredited PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency offers a unique, comprehensive and stimulating learning environment. A resident completing this program will become a competent practitioner in the care of emergency medicine patients by gaining knowledge, expertise, confidence, time management, complex problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
The resident will be integrally involved with health care professionals throughout the patient care continuum, including patient education, assessment and therapeutic recommendations. Working with experienced pharmacy clinicians, the resident will gain experience serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents. Residents will provide compassionate, evidence-based, progressive medical care. The program allows tailored instruction for the individual based on interests and past experiences.

The PGY2 Emergency Medicine resident will staff ~50 to 60 total shifts throughout the year, including on-call shifts. This will include two holiday shifts. The RPD will pre-determine the shifts for the Emergency Medicine resident based on staffing needs. Additionally,
The Emergency Medicine pharmacy resident will staff two non-consecutive weekends per 8-week schedule for a total of approximately 30 shifts.
The Emergency Medicine pharmacy resident will cover approximately 10-12 PharmD on-call shifts (one Thursday per month).
Any necessary or desired alterations to the scheduled weekend staffing must be approved by the manager and RPD.
The Emergency Medicine resident will be eligible for additional pay for any staffing or on-call shifts outside of the pre-specified staffing requirements and residency rotational responsibilities, pending RPD and manager approval.
Staffing will occur in the Emergency Department pharmacy (Nebraska Medical Center ED and/or Bellevue Medical Center’s ED). Shifts at Bellevue Medical Center will count toward the Longitudinal Community Emergency Medicine rotation rather than resident staffing shifts, as this longitudinal experience has replaced a 4-week Community Emergency Medicine Rotation.
