The Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Oncology Pharmacy Residency at University of Iowa Health Care is a patient-focused, comprehensive training program conducted within the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa, a nationally ranked cancer center and Iowa’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. This 52-week program provides the necessary opportunities for highly motivated pharmacists to achieve their professional goals of becoming an oncology clinical pharmacist. The residency is designated to expand skills developed during PGY1 to solve complex oncology medication-related problems presented in today’s health care environment. Upon completion of this program, residents will be proficient oncology pharmacy specialists and will be able to sit for board certification.
This program gives the resident the opportunity to gain expertise in several hematology and oncology inpatient and outpatient patient care settings. Areas of additional emphasis include rotations and/or longitudinal experiences in oncology pharmacy practice management, drug policy, and investigational drug services. The resident will participate in precepting pharmacy students and will have an adjunct faculty role at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Additionally, the resident will have the opportunity to complete the Pharmacy Educator Preparation Program (PEPPR) Teaching Certificate offered through the UI College of Pharmacy. Completion of a formal clinical research project with a medication use evaluation component is required.

PGY2 Pediatrics
The Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pediatric Pharmacy Residency at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is a 52-week ASHP-accredited postgraduate pharmacy training program. Patient focused care is emphasized in this comprehensive residencyprogram conducted at Iowa’s only nationally ranked Children’s Hospital and is designed to help residents build upon the knowledge and skills they developed in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. In the PGY2 year, residentsacquirethe skills needed to solve complex pediatric medication-related problems presented in health care today. Working with members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, residents will participate in all aspects of patient’s drug therapy such as the selection, assessment, and monitoring of patient’s drug therapy. Residents will acquire new and in-depth knowledge of pediatrics, which will allow them to become proficient as an independent practitioner in this area. All graduates will be competent and independent practitioners in the pharmacotherapy management of inpatient pediatric disease states as well as have experience in an area of specialized ambulatory care through the Pediatric Specialty Clinic.

PGY2 Requirements:
Graduation from an ACPE Accredited School of Pharmacy.
Current or eligible for Iowa Pharmacist licensure.
Completion of ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program.
