In affiliation with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, ASHP-accredited residencies in infectious diseases are available with experienced clinical faculty at Ascension Seton - Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin and with the South Texas Veterans Health Care System and University Health in San Antonio. The two underlined programs, University Health and Ascension Seton - Dell Seton Medical Center, are participating in PPS. University Health
The University Health PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Program provides a challenging, well-rounded training environment including a variety of infectious diseases states seen in a variety of clinical areas, including but not limited to, general medicine and surgery, surgical/trauma ICU, neuroscience ICU, medicine ICU, oncology, HIV, emergency medicine, cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery, and solid organ transplant. Rotations include Microbiology Laboratory, Infectious Diseases Consults, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Inpatient HIV Service, and Outpatient HIV Clinic with additional electives to include but not limited to ID/OPAT Clinic, CF Clinic, Transplant Infectious Diseases, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and multiple ICU opportunities.
Residents will have opportunities to care for adult and pediatric patients and teach and precept pharmacy students. In addition, residents will demonstrate leadership and practice management skills and complete an infectious diseases research project. Graduates of the program are prepared to take clinical pharmacy specialist and faculty positions related to infectious diseases.
Ascension Seton, in conjunction with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, is offering an ASHP accredited Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency. Ascension Seton is a 12-hospital network in Austin and the surrounding Central Texas area. The primary base for the residency program is at Dell Ascension Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas at Austin (a large tertiary care, academic institution and Level 1 trauma center), but residents have the opportunity to complete rotations at some of our community and pediatric hospitals. The residency is designed to provide the resident with an intense, concentrated, and diverse 12-month training program with a focus on antimicrobial stewardship and the clinical application of antimicrobial pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Required rotations include antimicrobial stewardship, infectious diseases consult service, HIV, pediatric infectious diseases, and adult critical care. Residents will also gain exposure to microbiology lab and infection prevention. Other rotations are available as electives.
