Our pharmacists are integral members of a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary care team. We maintain strong partnerships with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals across inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical pharmacists provide direct patient care through inpatient rounding, ambulatory clinics, and infusion centers across multiple cancer sites in the Kansas City metro area.
While our pharmacists enjoy diverse practice experiences, most develop a focused clinical niche. Current areas of support include:
Outpatient Clinics: Acute Leukemia, Myeloma, Lymphoma, BMT/CT, and solid tumor specialties including Breast, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, Gyn-Onc, Head/Neck/Lung, and Melanoma/Sarcoma
Our Pharmacy Cancer Care Team is comprised of over 60 clinical pharmacists with specialized training in oncology, hematology, and transplant services. Together, we support seven cancer sites across the Kansas City metropolitan area and a >1000-bed academic hospital, making us one of the largest and most dynamic oncology pharmacy teams in the region. We foster a rich environment for professional growth, offering opportunities to precept pharmacy students and residents, engage in research, and participate in national organizations. Our team works closely with Investigational Drug Services and the Pharmacy Informatics Beacon Team, supporting over 400 clinical trials across the health system.
PGY2 Oncology Residency Program Our competitive PGY2 Oncology Residency is designed to develop well-rounded oncology practitioners equipped to thrive in diverse practice settings. Residents gain experience in adult inpatient and ambulatory hematology/oncology and BMT/CT, complete a longitudinal research project, and contribute to teaching at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.
