Methodist University Hospital (MUH), in conjunction with the University of Tennessee, offers an ASHP-accredited postgraduate year two (PGY-2) residency in adult Internal Medicine Pharmacy Practice. This program has a 20-year history of preparing residents for successful careers as clinical specialists. The purpose of the program is to provide the resident with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to achieve excellence as a clinician, educator, and scholar in the area of internal medicine. Residents will have the opportunity to complete rotations with numerous inpatient, academic internal medicine teams, medicine subspecialty areas (eg: oncology, transplant, nephrology, neurology and cardiology), and ambulatory care. The resident will also have opportunities to collaborate with the MUH medical residents, the 7 PGY-1 pharmacy residents, and other PGY-2 specialty residents. There are also numerous precepting opportunities with pharmacy students via inpatient rotations and an interactive, case-based course. The expanded scope of practice allows our pharmacists and residents to practice at the top of their license while building strong relationships and trust with provider groups.
In addition to a wide variety of rotational learning experiences, residents are also able to participate in several learning opportunities meant to complement their clinical rotations. These include the Pharmacy Residency Education Series (PRES), the research development series, and the University of Tennessee Teaching and Learning Program (if a similar program was not completed during the PGY1 year).
You must meet the following requirements to apply:
Graduate from an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
