The Oncology Pharmacist Specialist provides pharmaceutical care to both inpatient and outpatient cancer patients. This role staffs our oncology infusion center pharmacies, but may also have rotational staffing responsibilities through our inpatient oncology service, oncology ambulatory care clinic, and transplant and cellular therapy service. This is a full-time day shift position that provides inpatient weekend coverage every 6th weekend.
The Oncology Pharmacist Specialist:
Participates in all activities related to medication therapy management in area of specialty.
Serves as an education resource for pharmacists, residents, students, and other health care professionals.
Is responsible for drug policy development and expert recommendations in area of specialty.
Collaborates with inpatient and outpatient nursing and physicians to identify service-related issues and opportunities for improvement.
Participates in all aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care as a member of interdisciplinary teams
Completes pharmacy consults/clinical interventions, interdisciplinary collaboration, stewardship of appropriate utilization of medications, integrated operational support, and departmental leadership as required by the position
Has additional responsibilities including education to patients, peers, medical, and nursing staff about the management, prescribing and monitoring of therapies used in oncology
Serves as a preceptor for the PGY2 Oncology and PGY1 Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Programs

Position Qualifications:
PharmD. degree from ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
ASHP accredited PGY1 residency required
ASHP accredited PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy residency or BCOP strongly preferred
The University of Tennessee Medical Center is a 710-bed, acute care, teaching hospital. It serves the entire East Tennessee region, providing all general and specialty clinical services and carries a Level I trauma center designation, supported by an aeromedical helicopter program. The medical center campus includes the UT College of Pharmacy and the Graduate School of Medicine which houses a large Family Medicine Clinic. The pharmacy staff provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, through decentralized pharmacist teams supported by pharmacist specialists in a wide variety of clinical areas. Additionally, there are satellite pharmacies in the operating room and oncology areas. Ambulatory care is provided via specialty services to the patients in the Family Medicine Clinic, Patient-Centered Medical Home, and the Renal Transplant Clinic, among others.
