Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist – Acute Care
Interested in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology while also maintaining a core knowledge base in other pediatric specialty areas? This role is for you!
This position supports pediatric pharmacy services for the 125 bed UVA Children's Hospital. The schedule for the position is primarily day shift and will be trained to cover the following primary clinical areas: - Inpatient hematology/oncology/GI - General pediatrics (includes endocrine, renal, cardiac and solid organ transplant) - Outpatient pediatric infusion center - Option to train in ambulatory clinics
Additional clinical training includes Level IV NICU and PICU (flexiblity to cover these shifts if needed is required). Staffing may also include coverage of the pediatric satellite pharmacy (verification of pediatric specific oral dosage forms). This position staffs every 4th weekend along with other members of the pediatric team in a dedicated clinical coverage of the Children's Hospital and is responsible for covering all pediatric service lines outlined above as part of the team. Additional rotational shift coverage expectations: coverage of evening shift per weekend rotation or vacations/vacancies of evening pediatric pharmacists, nightshift (after 1 year of service) per department rotation to cover vacations or vacancies of overnight pharmacists (roughly 3-4 nightshifts every 6 months).
Additional job expectations include precepting pharmacy students and both PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents, participating in team and department goal setting and achievement, developing and implementing protocol and guideline updates. Other responsibilities may be delegated by the manager or team lead depending on need and interest areas of the applicant. Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection dosage regimen design effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services in the UVA Medical Center. Monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with relating medical staff to find alternatives when needed to ensure the best care possible is being given.

Experience: PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience. (3 years). PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas.

Pharmacist – Nightshift (7 on/7 off schedule) Oversees the nightly operation of the pharmacy. Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing optimal drug product selection dosage regimen design effective administration drug therapy monitoring services and supervision of the medication dispensing process in the Medical Center. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employees in exempt positions are paid on a salary basis and are not eligible for overtime compensation. This classification is based on the duties and responsibilities of the role, which meet the criteria for the Professional exemption. The anticipated schedule arrangement for the successful incumbent is 7 nights on, 7 nights off (Thursday-Wednesday).

Pharmacist – Medication Utilization Strategy (Heme/Onc) Position Summary The Medication Utilization Strategy Pharmacist is part of a collaborative systemwide team that supports the safe, effective, and efficient use of medications across UVA Health. This team is responsible for the management and operations of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee and its subcommittees, formulary oversight, and governance of clinical documents including policies, SOPs, guidelines, and protocols. The pharmacist contributes to advancing medication-use strategy through interdisciplinary collaboration, alignment of formulary and operational decisions, and integration of evidence-based standards into practice. Additional responsibilities include supporting drug shortage mitigation and facilitating seamless implementation of formulary and policy decisions to promote clinical and operational excellence throughout the health system.
Hematology/Oncology and Infusion Focus The primary focus of this position is hematology, oncology, and infusion-related medication management. The pharmacist will serve as the lead for the Hematology Subcommittee, coordinating formulary reviews, biosimilar strategy, and REMS program oversight within this specialty area. The role also supports infusion-center related medication use governance, ensuring consistent formulary alignment, and optimized workflows that balance clinical appropriateness with efficient resource utilization.
