Alexion, in collaboration with MCPHS, offers a unique fellowship program to promote the role of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) within the biopharmaceutical industry. A fellow gains extensive experiences through various practical activities in both industry and academic settings, which could enhance the potential for accelerated career development.
US Medical Affairs (USMA) is a rotational program with 6-month rotations in US Medical Excellence, US Medical Director, and US MSL positions. The program also allows for a final 6-month elective rotation in any area the fellow desires.
US Medical Excellence:
Develop and update scientific field materials under the guidance of the medical communication leads
Participate in planning and execution of tier 1 congresses
Identify, develop, and execute trainings needed across USMA to increase scientific knowledge and skill development
Work on special projects as needed which further USMA and medical excellence strategic imperatives
US Medical Director:
Participate in cross-functional projects to create internal and external deliverables
Support Medical Directors within a therapeutic area on tactical implementation of key program initiatives
Contribute to the medical and regulatory review process of field medical and external resources
Develop leadership skills and fundamental knowledge in the area of strategic planning within the Medical Affairs organization
Participate in MSL onboarding and certification
Provide support to tier 1 congresses planning and provide medical support via as abstract coverage, booth staffing, and KOL engagement
Actively participate with MSLs in their field engagements

The MCPHS Biopharmaceutical Industry fellows will be selected on a nationally competitive basis, with interviews at the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear meeting.
Applicants must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy at the commencement of the program.
Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong interest in pursuing a career within the biopharmaceutical industry.
All candidates must have authorization to work in the United States throughout the duration of the one or two-year fellowship. No visa sponsorship will be provided.

As an adjunct instructor at MCPHS, the fellow may have the opportunity to:

•Co-precept pharmacy students on advanced experiential rotations
•Create and publish scholarly research and/or review articles
•Present research at scientific and clinical meetings
•Participate in professional development seminars with other fellows and residents from MCPHS-affiliated programs
