The Pediatric Clinical Pharmacist at Norton Children's Hospital plays a critical role in providing pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients. This role focuses on ensuring the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications by managing and monitoring drug therapy in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The pharmacist will work evening shifts to support the hospital's clinical pharmacy services and provide drug-related guidance for inpatient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Expertise: Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to pediatric patients, including drug selection, dosing, monitoring, and evaluating therapy outcomes.
Medication Dispensing: Accurately dispense medications in accordance with regulatory guidelines and hospital policies.
Patient Care: Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized treatment plans for pediatric patients, focusing on medication safety, efficacy, and proper dosing.
Monitoring Therapy: Review patient medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness, including potential drug interactions, contraindications, and allergies.
Education: Educate healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers about medication use, potential side effects, and other relevant pharmaceutical information.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all pharmacy activities comply with state, federal, and hospital regulations.
Quality Improvement: Participate in initiatives to improve clinical pharmacy services and optimize medication management processes.
Emergency Response: Provide pharmaceutical support during emergencies and be available for consultations on drug therapy in urgent and critical care situations.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all pharmacy activities, including patient interactions, medication dispensing, and consultations.
Technology Utilization: Use hospital pharmacy systems, electronic medical records, and other technologies to manage and track patient medication information
Schedule: Monday through Friday (NO Weekends or Holidays), Mon/Fri (2-10:30pm), Tues/Wed/Thur (1-9:30pm)
Work Environment: This position is based in Norton Children's Hospital, a leading pediatric hospital in Louisville, KY. The pharmacist will work in various settings within the hospital, including inpatient care units, emergency departments, and the central pharmacy.

Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution
Licensure: Active pharmacist license in Kentucky (or eligibility for licensure)
Experience: Pediatric clinical pharmacy experience, Completion of a pediatric pharmacy residency (PGY1 or PGY2)
Skills: Strong knowledge of pediatric pharmacotherapy, excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, attention to detail and critical thinking for evaluating complex medication regimens
