The University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center is comprised of two academic medical centers, three outpatient cancer infusion centers, one ambulatory infusion center, five retail pharmacies and a specialty pharmacy. UT Southwestern offers a PGY-1/PGY-2 health-system pharmacy administration and leadership residency experience in an exciting and expanding healthcare system. Throughout the program, residents will constantly be involved in administrative functions within the department. The first year’s rotations focus on completion of clinical requirements through internal medicine, critical care, antimicrobial stewardship, cardiology, and two additional elective required clinical rotations. Additionally during the first year the resident will complete an inpatient operations and finance/budgeting rotations.  The second year has a focus on administrative topics through inpatient, ambulatory, oncology, finance, quality/medication safety, senior leadership rotations, plus electives and possibly external rotation experiences. Throughout the 24 months, residents will complete a MBA degree through our partnership with UT Dallas or a Masters in Science of Health Informatics (MSHI) from the UT Southwestern School of Health Professions. Most classes are online with periodic weekend attendance required.  Additionally, longitudinal experiences include, but are not limited to, staffing in the central pharmacy and clinical areas, code blue response, presentation of a one-hour ACPE accredited continuing education lecture, administrative on-call responsibilities and completion of a research project. The resident’s research project will also count towards completion of the MBA’s or MSHI's capstone course. The program’s goal is to develop and prepare the residents for a variety of administrative positions and to be future leaders within the profession.  Additionally the HSPAL residency just obtained full 8 year accreditation from ASHP along with all other UTSW pharmacy residency programs.

UTSW PGY-1/PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Pharmacy Residency

Pharm.D, eligibility for Texas licensure.  All application materials must be submitted via PhORCAS: Letter of intent, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and official transcripts from all pharmacy education.  Minimum GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale.

Application deadline is Jan. 2, 2025.  GRE/GMAT scores are NOT required.  Application to the UT-Dallas MBA or UTSW-MSHI program only required after the match.
