PGY2 Pediatrics

This program will be physically present at the ASHP Midyear Conference and PPS. This is a one-year ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency that is designed to develop practitioner expertise in pediatric pharmacotherapy and clinical skills by providing a diverse number of experiences in pediatrics. The C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospital is a 348-bed tertiary care academic medical center that will provide the resident with educational experience encompassing a variety of activities with an emphasis on pediatric therapy management. Services covered by pediatric pharmacists at Mott include general pediatrics, infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship, hematology/oncology, neurology, pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), pediatric cardiothoracic intensive care unit (PCTU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), bone marrow transplantation, emergency medicine, surgery, labor and delivery, pain management, and investigational drug study support. 

• Required rotations: General Pediatrics, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Pediatric Cardiology and research (always December) 
• Elective optional rotations: Pediatric Infectious Diseases (clinical and stewardship), Pediatric Surgery, Solid Organ Transplant, Pain Management/Palliative Care, Acute Pain Management/Medication Safety, Investigational Drug Service, Pediatric Administration, Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant, and Cystic Fibrosis Clinic
• Longitudinal experiences: Pediatric subspecialties clinic, pediatric code coverage, teaching with adjunct clinical instructor appointment at the College of Pharmacy, research and writing project, Membership on pediatric medication safety committee, case conference mentorship of PGY1 residents, 
• Staffing: 15 weekends per year in the pediatric clinical and pediatric emergency department with 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Requirements:

Interested candidates must submit the following materials via PhORCAS no later than January 2, 2025: 

• Eligibility for or holding an active pharmacist and controlled substance license in Michigan,
• Academic transcripts,
• Successful completion of a PGY1 residency program,
• Three letters of reference in the standard PhORCAS form,
• Letter of intent,
• Curriculum vitae.

An interview is required and will be scheduled between late January and early February.

Pharmacists perform functions like making sure chemotherapy orders are correct and properly dosed, helping patients and physicians with anticoagulation dosing, and dosing for drugs such as antibiotics an...d anticonvulsants. The pharmacy also provides outpatient locations for patients to fill prescriptions. Because of the specialized care that UMH provides, often other community-based pharmacies are not equipped to handle some of the complicated prescriptions that patients receive.
