As the only ASHP accredited program in the state of New Jersey, the PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program at The Children's Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, is designed to provide a broad exposure to patient care in a goal-oriented, interactive teaching environment. Experience and knowledge are developed through learning experiences with highly skilled pharmacy and non-pharmacy preceptors dedicated to patient care and education. Flexibility allows residents to tailor learning experiences to meet their individual interests and career goals. Residents will complete a major project aimed at improving pediatric pharmaceutical care within the institution and will participate in medication use evaluations and multidisciplinary committees.
Residents gain teaching experience by serving as co-preceptors for pharmacy students and PGY1 pharmacy residents; and providing continuing education for pharmacists and members of the health care team. Residents interested in strengthening their skills in presenting lectures and precepting students may participate in a teaching certificate program, as well as a wide variety of activities, at Rutgers University, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. Upon completion of this residency program, residents are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification.
